AUGUST GOLF COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
FRIDAY AUGUST 17, 2015

 
9:00 A.M. Meeting called to order by Chairman Bill Norcross.

Present:  Bill Norcross, Jim Hester and Frank Guglielmi; Casper golf:  David Ford, David Bell and Andy Kesling;   9 Hole Ladies Representative:  Carole Winters; John Brown, MGA representative: not present; Sharon Andrews, WGA Representative:   not present .  Also present were guests Curt McCullough (President of Board of Supervisors) and Tanya Cannady (New General Manager of the District).

MGA:  No report.

WGA: No report.

9 Hole Ladies: Carole reported there are 54 members and only 4 or 5 playing during the summer.

Bill Norcross: Bill asked about new tee markers.  David Bell is working on this.   Bill asked about aesthetic improvements on the course, this is in progress.  Bill also asked about bridge replacement.  There are no plans for this.  He also asked about sod in some areas – this is in process.   He asked about the maintenance area upgrade – Curt McCullough responded that the Board of Supervisors is working on this project.

Frank Guglielmi: Frank asked that a plate be used when the cups are cut to ensure the edges are flat.  He also suggested looking at the green fees during the season and consider raising them.

Jim Hester: Jim reported on formation of Handicap and Rules Committee.  Cynthia Cottrill was elected chairman and John Phillips secretary.  The tournaments that are to be posted as tournament scores were selected and the pro shop will post these scores.  The next meeting will be August 31st and the local rules for the upcoming year will be posted at this time.

David Ford: They are still interviewing candidates for his replacement.  They hope to have somebody hired and familiarized with our operation to enable David to assume his new position by mid September.

David BellThe concrete work on Deer Run will complete this week.  We are on schedule to complete the contract work by the end of the month.  He will be working on the fairways on Turtle Run using compost and re-sodding some areas.  There are no major projects scheduled for next year so he will be concentrating his efforts on more labor intensive work of improving the golf courses.

Andy Kesling: The World’s Largest Golf Outing was a success with 240 players and $8,000.00 was raised for the Wounded Warrior Program.  The Firemen Tournament had 212 golfers.  Sertoma Jr.  dinner attracted 180.  The 2-Man Sertoma Tournament will be played  August 22-23.  They have 264 signed up.  Tuesday night golf league had 108 participants and will run 3 more weeks.  The County Amateur will be held Sept. 18th, 19th, and 20th.  Sign-up forms are available in the pro shop.  There are  a number of flights so all golfers can compete.  He is currently working on member group tee times for the season.  This year instead of both courses being shotgun starts we will be having one course shotgun and the other front and back tee times on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.  The times will be 7:30 to 9:30.  One of our pros bill be handling the starter duties.  This new program will begin October 1, 2015.
